From the Principal

Back to the “New Normal” at OLV

This week we are tracking at about 90 – 95% attendance in the preschool & school, with the handful of other families indicating that they plan to return next week and some deciding on more time in home connected learning.  This is a great result.

Our Learning Plan for Week 3 is getting back to “normal”:

  • Return to normal face to face teaching
  • Those students not at school, will be provided with some direction / work (hard copy), - Daily Teams check in will cease
  • Parents keeping children at home will be required to provide structure and support
  • Allied Health workers OT / Speech Therapists can recommence coming to OLV
  • Instrumental tutors resuming their program
  • Extra Cleaning Maintained
  • Parents - appropriate social distancing and controls remain in place (not to enter classrooms)
  • Playgroup – still postponed until further notice
  • Term 2 Activities - Until we are notified, we will continue to have no whole school events, eg Assemblies, School Masses, excursions etc.

As we can see things are returning to ‘normal’ at OLV.  This has been very difficult for all of you and I send my deep appreciation for your on going support, the care and flexibility of staff and the calmness and positivity of the children. Let us, however, not forget those families who have been impacted so cruelly by this virus; those losing businesses, employment, wage reductions and our grandparents, extended families who have suffered through the isolation from those they love. Please also remember that if you have been affected financially, we are offering full school fee remissions for this term. Please see Micaela for details of the application process.

Mother’s Day … Walkway of Love

This coming Sunday, we celebrate our mums. Mother’s Day is a beautiful day where we acknowledge the amazing impact our mums have on our lives. All of our mums are special and no two are the same. However you celebrate Mother’s Day this year, I pray that your day is filled with love. Thank you mums for all you bring to the life of our community!

At OLV, we will be creating the “Walkway of Love” in the area outside the Veritas Centre where the majority of preschool & school parents walk past.  All classes and our preschool children will decorate this area to celebrate Mother’s Day.  Unfortunately we can not have class & school celebrations to acknowledge Mother’s Day, so we hope mothers can take time to look at our beautiful display of messages to mothers.

Mother’s Day Reflection

When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day.......

An angel came by and asked, ”Why spend so much time on her?”

The Lord answered, “Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?

“She must function in all kinds of situations, cure herself when sick and have the ability to work 18 hours a day.

“She must be able to embrace several kids at the same time, have a hug that can heal anything, from a bruised knee to a broken heart, and she must do all this with only two hands.”

The angel was impressed. “Just two hands, impossible! And this is the standard model?”

The Angel came closer and touched the woman. “But you have made her so soft, Lord.”

“She is soft,” said the Lord, “but I have made her strong; you can’t imagine what she can endure and overcome.”

“Can she think?” the Angel asked.

The Lord answered, “Not only can she think; she can also reason and negotiate.”

The Angel touched her cheeks, “Lord, it seems this creation is leaking. You have put too many burdens on her!”

“She is not leaking, it is a tear,” the Lord corrected the Angel.

“What is it for?” asked the Angel.

The Lord said, “Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride.”

This made a big impression on the Angel.

“Lord, you are a genius, you thought of everything. A woman is indeed marvellous!”

The Lord agreed, “Truly she is. She has the strength to amaze a man. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. She holds happiness, love and opinions.

“She smiles when she feels like screaming. She sings when she feels like crying, cries when she’s happy and laughs when she’s afraid.

“She fights for what she believes in. Her love is unconditional.

Her heart is broken when a loved one dies but she finds the strength to get on with life.”

The Angel asked, “So she is a perfect being?”

The Lord replied: “No. She has just one drawback: she often forgets what she is worth.”

Uniform

Due to COVID-19 our Uniform Shop has only opened today.  The Uniform Shop will continue to be open on Thursday mornings (8.30am – 9.30am).  We also encourage families to download the order form (online from our website) so orders may be pre-packed and ready for collection.

School Uniforms.  Winter Uniform would normally start next week, however with the uncertainty returning to “normal” the change over period has been extended.

All I ask is for the children to be in a school uniform, and are warm.

KINDY Firefighters Visit

Recently at kindy we have been learning about the people who help us in our community and ways to keep ourselves safe. We have learnt about fire safety, road safety and the dangers of playing with matches or medicines.

This week we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Metropolitan Fire Service who reinforced the messages of fire safety.  They also showed us their uniforms and talked to us about emergency vehicles. We were very excited to look inside the fire engine and hear their sirens. We also had the chance to squirt water from the huge fire hose!
