Term 2 Week 6, 2021
Pupil Free Day - Friday June 11
Next Friday June11th will be a Pupil Free Day (Preschool will operate as normal). This day was booked at the beginning of the year and set aside for staff professional learning. In amongst all the disruptions to regular teaching and learning it is still necessary for staff to access quality professional development and continue to experience new learning to support better student outcomes. This date is the Friday before the June long weekend and it may be a really great opportunity with restrictions lifted on regional travel for a short family getaway somewhere in country SA. I thank you in advance for your support with this.
We will be offering the OSHC program on this day for families who may need child care.
COVID-19 Update
With the out break and lock down in Melbourne, it is important for us all to remember our procedures:
- Complete the QR Code when entering the school site
- Attending class / school events (Assembly) – complete the sign in sheet
- Sanitise
In the event of the school shutting down (as has happened in Victoria) information will be emailed to parents. The school will be opened for children of essential workers, as was the case in 2020.
Online Booking System - Parent Teacher Conversations (Parent Teacher Interviews)
Parent Teacher Conversations (Parent Teacher Interviews) will be conducted in Week 10 of this term. Semester 1 Reports will be distributed on Friday 25th June with interviews the following week.
This Semester we will be introducing an online booking system for these interviews. Next Monday 7th June all families will receive information on how to use the new School Interview system (www.schoolinterviews.com.au). This is as simple as:
- Enter your details
- Select the teachers you wish to see
- Select the times that best suit your family
- Click finish and an email confirming the times will be sent to you.
These times will be sent to your child’s teacher. You will have until Wednesday 23rd June to complete this process. This is the first time we are doing online bookings and this is what we will now do in 2021 when booking appointments.
Information will be sent home next Monday and if you have any problems, Tracy Fiacchi and Shey Angove will be able to assist you.
New Reception Class Term 3
We will be starting a new Reception Class at the beginning of Term 3. This class will be based in the rooms behind the current Growing into Reception Classroom. Mr Merrett’s PE / SAPSASA Office has been relocated to accommodate this move.

Hello everyone,
I hope that you and your families are well.
We have seen the seasons change from Autumn to Winter – accompanied by quite a change in the weather that we are experiencing.
Stay warm!
Our Faith
We have just finished the month of May - a month dedicated to Jesus’ mother Mary in the church.
A most significant celebration during the month was just last Monday – the 31st of May. Each year we recognise a significant time from the scriptures – Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth. Mary travelled many days to visit her cousin, not only to share the news of her pregnancy, but to serve Elizabeth during her pregnancy.
It also holds a special place in our hearts at Taperoo, as it it is where we get our school’s name.
The children and staff celebrated on Monday afternoon with a liturgy in the Veritas Centre.
Our School
Last Monday, each of the classes recognised the Feast of Pentecost with a prayer service within the classrooms.

I have attached a web link – a video that could be shared at home for discussion.
On Wednesday, the Year 2/3 classes led a beautiful liturgy recognising National Sorry Day. It was very moving and the children were extremely respectful of the occasion.
Our Children
Last Monday, Mr DeTullio drove Tara, Jordan and myself into the city for a significant occasion at our cathedral, St Francis Xavier Cathedral. We were there to celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia. There were children and staff from many of our Catholic schools in South Australia. There were many masses held simultaneously around Australia at the time.
God bless you and take care,
Patrick.
MINIBEASTS
The kindy children have been learning about the many little creatures that share our world. There has been lots of new and interesting learning during group times. The children have enjoyed looking at creatures in the tanks in kindy and discussing them with their friends. They have participated in art and craft activities based around the minibeast theme. There have been many opportunities for children to interact and learn from each other and to connect with the world around them. They especially love searching for little bugs in the nature garden and including them in their play.
