Term 3 Week 6, 2021
Book Week Parade 9.15am on the Courts outside St Francis Hall
Tomorrow we will conclude Book Week with our annual Book Week Parade which starts at 9.15am and will be held on the Courts outside St Francis Hall. This year the parade will be coordinated by Year 2/3 B. Having this event outside will enable parents to attend.
I ask that parents attending:
- Use the QR Code
- Remain masked at all times
- Social distance
- Do not mingle with the classes – remain behind the cordoned off area
The theme of Book Week 2021 is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.
It is excellent for children to get dressed up for Book Week. Dressing up is a form of imaginative play — and imaginative play boosts problem-solving and self-regulation skills. Kids create situations and scenes and act out social events. Dress-up encourages creative thinking and communication skills. It also helps children practice language development and their social skills.
Book Fair
Our annual book fair held early in the week was once again a huge success. The sales have earnt our school $1485 worth of vouchers to be used for new books and resources for our School Library. Thank you to all who visited the fair.
Covid Reminders
As the unfolding events interstate remind us, we remain cautious and vigilant about the COVID challenge and continue to take on the advice from SA Health and CESA. Unfortunately, the restrictions remain as they are for the time being. This means:
- Limiting adults on site (unfortunately this has meant that parents can not attend assembly and masses as they are indoors).
- Masks must be worn by all parents who enter our school gates
All members of our community are invited to complete this Survey which will give us further information to use in our efforts to track our progress here at school and form educational and community goals for 2022.
The Survey is totally confidential and all participants are de-identified. Analysis of the Surveys will be presented to teachers, staff, and the School Board and I will also complete a report to the community early next term.
Further information regarding the Survey, Confidentiality, Use of Data etc is available by using the above QR code or via this link - www.NSIPartnerships.com.au with the code OLVLLLP in the Start Questionnaire field.
The students (Year 2 – Year 6) have completed a similar survey.
We thank you for participation in this important Survey.
Fun, challenging, exciting, new learning, hard, and brand new are some of the words that the students gave me when I asked them to describe the past few weeks in STEM lessons.
We have been lucky enough to purchase some new and exciting learning resources such as Coding Awbie, Osmo kits, Makers Empire, 3D printers and drones.
The students in the Early Years have absolutely loved Osmo and shhh don’t tell them, they learnt addition, spelling and patterning whilst playing!!!!!!
The older students have began exploring a new application called Makers Empire where they can design a 3D model/figurine and eventually print it out using the new 3D printers. Be sure to ask your children all about it.
Regards, Mrs. Maddern.
The Reception / Year 1 classes have had a fantastic start to learning Italian this Semester. For some children, this has been their very first time learning Italian and it has been pleasing to see so many excited and eager faces each week. Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the Olympic Games along with learning our colours and numbers.
The children have enjoyed various books, songs and vocab games in Italian, particularly learning the ‘Buongiorno Song’ and counting from 1-10 in Italian. I am sure they would all love to share their learning with you at home.
O.L.V performed extremely well at the Catholic Schools Cross Country Championships held on Wednesday 18th August 2021. There were between 100-150 runners in each event, running a distance of 2,000 metres. Some 43 students from O.L.V. completed the distance. Well done!
The weather was great! The creek had water in it! A special thank you to Shey Angove, Tina Ida, Michael Long and Michelle Edwards for helping with supervising, first aid and marshalling the children. The following are some of the children’s performances.
