Students in the Year 2/3 Unit were introduced to our science topic through a Five Senses Nature Scavenger Hunt Activity.

Our Science Topic ‘Watch it grow’ provides students with hands-on opportunities to:

  • explore the growth of a range of living things
  • inquire about the processes of growth and change, of reproduction and death that apply to all animals
  • compare the growth of living things under different conditions

This introductory session allowed students to look at living and non-livings things around them.

Our Scavenger Hunt Activity was divided into five different sessions: Sight, Sound, Touch, Smell and Taste.  Each section required students to locate an object that filled a sensory criterion, such as "something smooth", "something yellow", or "something that has a smell".

Scavenger hunts are a fantastic way to encourage exploration and discovery in children. This outdoor sensory scavenger hunt is a great way to not only get students outside and moving, but it also teaches them about all our sensory systems. It’s also awesome to try at home inside on a rainy day!
